Bio

Hailed as “a young but immense pianist” displaying “his absolute control and unwavering technique, combined with elegance, natural phrasing”( LA VERDAD, CRÍTICA DE MÚSICA), Hong Kong Pianist John Lee has quickly won over audience and critics alike over his astonishing debut performance with the Murcia Symphony Orchestra (ÖSRM) in Spain, which was described as a “surpassing performance over the preceded"


Signed as a contract artist by the GOCAA association, John has been a frequent winner in international competitions. During his years in Europe, he was awarded the first prize in the Watford International Piano Competition, CLAMO International piano competition and Hopkinson Gold medal in the Chappell Medal Piano competition, which is considered as one of the most prestigious piano awards at the Royal College of Music. In Asia, John was awarded First Prize in the 2016 Hong Kong International Piano Open competition and was also the recipient of the Schumann Art Prize in the 5th Asian Youth Piano Festival competition. In 2015, He won the Silver Medal in the 16th Chopin International Piano Competition in Japan.  Same year, He was sponsored by the Tom Lee Association to compete in the 79th Steinway and Sons International Youth Competition in China where he was awarded the Second Prize, the highest given award.

While working on personal achievements, John also has more than 7 years of teaching and accompanying experience. In 2018, he was invited to work aside a group of renowned professors at the European Pianofest in Madrid, Spain. Later in summer 2019, he was invited to give recital and master classes at the GOCAA Music Festival in Hainan, China.

Throughout these years John has been selected to work with renowned pianists including Lea Agmon, Wu Han, Aquiles Delle Vigne, Tamas Ungar, Vladimir Ovchinnikov and Pascal Roge.  He also performs extensively in Asia and Europe, around cities including Foshan, Sanya, Murcia, Madrid, London, Windsor and more.

A recipient of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund, John obtained his Bachelor of Music Degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he was admitted into the junior department at the age of eight, under the guidance of Julie Kuok, Wang Nam and Yim Wan with scholarships sponsored by the Great Eagle Holdings, Tom Lee, Parsons and more. Upon graduation, he has just achieved his master degree at the Royal College of Music, where he was awarded the John & Marjorie Scholarship, the Noel Croucher Scholarship as well as the ABRSM Jardine Matheson Award, under the tutelage of renowned Russian pedagogue Dina Parakhina with a distinction award.

John has been a frequent performer around the globe, he has performed extensively in the UK, Spain and China. Recently in 2021 & 2023, John was invited to perform in the RTHK Beethoven 250th anniversary project and the Rachmaninoff 150th anniversary concert series. Both concerts are broadcasted and extremely well received.
